The table clock “Two Train Condliff” with two trains was made to the design of James Condliff, Liverpool, around 1860 and is the latest addition to the series of skeleton clocks from Sinclair Harding. It is based on the Series 2 style of the renowned Liverpool clockmaker James Condliff.
In the Victorian era, perhaps less than 100 skeleton clocks in various styles were made by this company. Very few of the original skeleton clocks ever appear at auction. This latest two train skeleton clock is possibly the most elegant of the Condliff clocks with extremely delicate frames.
At Sinclair Harding, state-of-the-art CNC machines are used to produce components of the highest precision. All clocks are then polished by hand.
Some of Condliff’s clocks have conventional wheel movements with pendulums. The table clock “Two Train Condliff”, on the other hand, is equipped with a large balance wheel that is mounted with a balance spring at the top of the clock case. This gives the clocks a very appealing and balanced look. The clock has a seconds display, which is indicated by a central seconds hand in the form of a sweep against the hand. All hands and the strike train are polished and blued.
The base made of polished French wood is built into a box in which the bell is located. The clock strikes on the hour. An elegant, beveled glass shade with an opening door is included to protect the very fine mechanism from dust.
