Description

NT 12

Powerhouse with staying power

The NT 12 table clock from Matthias Naeschke is proof that mechanical clockmaking knows almost no limits. Our aim has always been to incorporate new ideas into clockmaking. This results in luxurious and special timepieces that delight experts and watch enthusiasts alike – and the NT 12 table clock is no exception.

The movement is a real powerhouse. Here, two barrels weighing almost 20 kilograms pull on a heavy-duty stainless steel cable with a diameter of just 1 mm. This transfers the entire drive energy to the fusee and thus to the gear train. A conventional chain would not be able to withstand this enormous load and would break after a short time.

Beautifully finished mechanics

But why does the NT 12 require so much more energy than conventional spring-wound movements? This is due to the remarkable running time of one year. The gear train and the entire frame of this clock have been specially dimensioned for these forces. The pillars that connect the plates to each other are also positioned in such a way that no torsion can occur.

The 4 mm thick brass plates reveal a great deal of the beautifully finished mechanism thanks to their deliberate skeletonization. Four solid pillars form the platform on which the movement rests. Only one of the two integrated barrels is visible. It sits – separately from the actual gear train – at the bottom center between the columns. The other is concealed in the base of the clock.

LONG RUNNER WITH LARGER DIMENSIONED DETAIL

In addition to the time display on a sterling silver dial, the NT 12 also has a separate power reserve display. As all the parts in this clock are slightly larger, the winding key is in no way inferior. It has been shaped by us so that it is a real hand flatterer. The winding key has its own drawer in the wooden base of the case so that it is always to hand even after the 365 days have expired. It’s a shame that this magnificent clock requires so little attention.
