Description

Moonphase Sea Clock (RH)

The table clock “Moonphase Sea Clock” (RH) from Sinclair Harding stands for the competition that broke out in the 18th century to solve the longitude problem. Each moon phase dial is hand-painted by artist Keith Warrington and features a hidden initial and date on each dial.

The royal astronomer Edmund Halley (ca. 1656-1742) was an advocate of the lunar distance method for determining longitude. The necessary observations and calculations took many hours and were prone to error. The hand-painted moon phase dial (each signed and numbered by the artist) on the table clock “Moonphase Sea Clock” (RH) symbolizes this alternative method.

Almost every piece is produced in the workshops of Sinclair Harding using a combination of modern technologies, materials and traditional finishing techniques. Careful attention is paid at every stage of the manufacturing and finishing process to ensure that the finished clock meets the agreed standard. This ensures that the collaboration with John Harrison meets the agreed quality standards.
